Premeditated Mercy • 1 Samuel 24
God is teaching David how to live in the secret place with God. That’s a place of safety, security, of peace.
The emphasis is on “with God.” You can’t live this way apart from Him.
In the Secret Place • 1 Samuel 23
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will dwell in the shadow of the Almighty.
You read that and think, that sounds great. Security and peace in God’s presence. Let me live there. Where is it?
Refuge & the House of God • 1 Samuel 21
Where would you go if you couldn’t depend on anyone?
David goes to the house of God, where he receives almost everything he needs.
In the Hand of God • 1 Samuel 19-20
David is exceptional. God is blessing him. We expect God to bless him like this.
But we don’t expect what happens next: everything in David’s life falls apart. He loses all he has gained up until now.
He Overcomes Unwillingness • John 20
Jesus overcame death when He rose from the dead. How do we describe that?
The most amazing, I think, is He overcomes unwillingness and stubbornness, and pride, to make us believers.
Good Friday Doesn't Look Like Much • Isaiah 53
The gospel accounts do not add much commentary or explanation of the death of Jesus. The Old Testament shows the meaning as well as what would happen. So outwardly it looks like a man is being executed. The real meaning is that God is pleased to save sinners.
Lose Your Worst Enemy • 1 Samuel 18
We look at a guy who causes his own problems and never figures out he is his own worst enemy. Why would we do something so depressing? Because you are doing the same thing and God doesn’t want you to lose everything valuable to you. He just wants you to lose your worst enemy: you.
A God for You • 1 Samuel 17
1 Samuel 17 is a big, long chapter and there’s so much in it, yet it is saying one thing: there is a God for Israel.
And because there is a God for Israel, then you are not alone. There’s a God for you.
A Child Can Do It • 1 Samuel 16
An old man and a boy both began to learn God as kids. You think, are they super-children? It’s not easy, therefore you seek God with Him. But it’s not complicated.
It’s so simple that a child can do it. Therefore you can do it, too.
